The Foundation for the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi has started a collaboration with LoveItaly, a non-profit organization, which has the goal of the protection and enhancement of Italian cultural heritage. The collaboration first of all foresees an upcoming 'crowdfunding' campaign for a needed preservation intervention of the Giotto frescos of the Glory of St. Francis, one of the four vaults, constituting the Vaults of the Vows, over the main altar of the Lower Church of the Basilica. LoveItaly has worked in the past with important Italian and American institutions, such as: the Archaeological Supervision of Pompeii; the Higher Institute for Conservation and Restoration, the Accademia dei Lincei and Villa Farnesina, the National Gallery of Ancient Art in Palazzo Corsini and the La Sapienza University of Rome; the Pinacoteca of San Severino Marche; the Amici della Certosa di Capri association, the Basilica of Sant’Antonio di Padova, and the American Federation of Arts of New York. The aim of the collaboration is to promote the historical-artistic heritage of the Basilica of Assisi, not only among visitors who come to Italy, but also among the huge number of people in the world, who are passionate about Italian history and culture.
